Comprehensive Thyroid Test for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

Thyroid Antibodies with Thyroid Hormones

The most common cause of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) is an autoimmune condition called Hashimoto's Disease. Since testing for Hashimoto's Disease is not standard practice, it is rarely tested. The Extended Hashimoto's Panel contains a blood test that measures TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and tests for thyroid hormones, including free t4 and free t3 ("free" meaning unbound to protein).

Also in this panel are tests for both TPO antibodies and TGA antibodies. This test screens for the antibodies responsible in autoimmune Hashimoto's Disease.

What's Being Tested:

  • Thyroid Peroxidase antibody (TPO)
  • Thyroglobulin antibody (TGB)
  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
  • Unbound free T4
  • Unbound free T3
