Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and gluten contaminated oats. Gluten give dough the fluffiness and chewiness seen in most breads. Because gluten is used in many processed foods, most people are constantly exposed to it. This is a challenge for our immune systems because the immune system is responsible for attacking foreign proteins like gluten (gliadin).
The immune system become increasingly "intolerant" to gluten, creating long-standing inflammation and intestinal damage. Gluten intolerance is seen in conditions such as autoimmune celiac disease and other intestinal conditions.
Our gluten intolerance test, supplied by Cyrex Labs (array #1), is a basic test for gluten intolerance and celiac disease. Since this is a saliva test, it can be easily used as a gluten intolerance test for children and adults.
You can take your results to your healthcare practitioner who can work with you to design an effective lifestyle treatment plan and tell you if you need to permanently or temporarily remove gluten from your diet. Note that we do offer a more comprehensive and detailed gluten intolerance blood test.
