Lab Test Description

2/16 OH Urine Test for Breast Cancer Risk | Estronex

This estrogen metabolism ratio test measures important estrogen breakdown products with one simple urine collection. Your body's ability to metabolize and eliminate certain estrogen plays an important role in determining your breast cancer risk.

Estronex measures 2-hydroxyestrone (good estrogen) and 16-alpha-hydroxyestrone (bad estrogen) to provide a 2/16 ratio and can help show the risk of developing estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.

What's Being Tested:

The "Good" Estrogen

  • 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE1) - High levels are ideal to reduce cancer growth.
  • 2-hydroxyestradiol (2-OHE2) - Shown to exhibit anticancer effects.
  • 2-methoxyestrone (2-OMeE1) - Shown to have anticancer effects and is ideal in high levels.
  • 4-methoxyestrone (4-OMeE1) - Non-cancerous and generally does not require treatment at high levels in the body.

The "Bad" Estrogen

  • 4-hydroxyestrone (4-OHE1) - Levels should be low, as high levels may damaged DNA thus promoting cancer.
  • 16-a-hydroxyestrone (16a-OHE1) - High levels may encourage tumor development.

The Ratios

  • 2-OHE:16a-OHE1 (2:16 ratio) - Ratios less than 2.0 indicate increasing long-term risk for breast, cervical, and other estrogen related cancers. Targeted nutritional interventions can help raise Estronex 2:16 ratios and decrease long-term risk.
  • 2-OHE1:2-OMeE1 - High levels may also indicate imbalanced estrogen metabolism that can lead to tumor development.
