Lab Test Description

Irritable Bowel (IBS) / SIBO Screen- Cyrex Array #22

In many instances, Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms can overlap. In the case of SIBO, bacteria can move up the colon towards the delicate small intestines.

Once bacteria become concentrated to a point in the small intestine, they can release cytotoxins- chemicals that are toxic to the cells of the small intestine.

As the cells of the gut lining are damaged, they can create SIBO / IBS symptoms and also activates the immune system, creating antibodies to both the cytotoxin and parts of the damaged gut cells called the cytoskeleton.

Cyrex Labs has developed a test to measure the antibody levels in the blood to both bacteria cytotoxins and cytoskeleton fragments. Knowing these levels can help you and your doctor develop a successful SIBO / IBS treatment plan.

What's Being Tested:

  • Bacterial Cytotoxins IgA- Active infection
  • Bacterial Cytotoxins IgM- Active infection
